This week George Cecato advised he had a meeting with Brad Daymond about using Pacific Bay Resort again for this year’s Wine, Beer & Food Day. It was a positive meeting and the most likely date is 20th May, although George advised he will be away at this time and it would be necessary to appoint someone else to manage the event.
Terry Maguire advised that whilst The National Cartoon Gallery recently received a Govt. grant of $2.69m to undertake significant improvements and receives an ongoing subsidy from Council, the Gallery requires more funds to keep the business going, with wages being their largest expense. The board is seeking to generate more funds from benefactors, sponsors & investors and, in this regard, if any of our members are able to provide any potential prospects it would be much appreciated.
After lunch Macca introduced our guest speaker Daniel Heather. Daniel has been at council in the role of Section Leader for Stadium & Major Events for approximately 2.5 years. The major points Daniel spoke on were:
- The Stadium injects $30m annually into the Coffs community
- The upgrade works consists of two stages, stage one having two new covered grandstands at each end of the existing grandstand, a new administration building, called “the Hub” adjacent to the northern grandstand (also incorporating a new café facility) and an upgraded lighting system.
- Stage two will be a major upgrade to the existing grandstand and car park plus a new 55 square meter state-of-the-art scoreboard.
- Stage one is due to open next Monday with stage two expected to be finalised by July
For all that and more, be sure to check out this week’s Coffs City Chatroom.
