This week Ian McAllister asked members to assist Coffs Harbour Rotary organising books for Bookfest. If you have some spare time over the next few Thursdays, the work is done from 4pm in the shed at the southern rear of Coffs Harbour Showground.
President Jay advised he has been speaking with Dionne at Jetty High School and they have three student interested in the NYSF program. The matter was discussed and before any commitment is given, we will need to review and commit to our financial support. The matter will be discussed by the board and relayed to the members.
Bob Carle gave a brief update on The Festival of Motor Sport. Bob advised that the profit from the event is expected to be in the range of $8k to $14k. Peter Wardman suggested some of these funds could assist our NYSF students.
Discussion was held as to where the remaining funds could be directed, with the initial
suggestion being to assist Coffs Hospital’s Emergency Department with mobile Ultrasound Machines.
Bob also advised that he’s been in discussions with Geoff King about two Samoan workers whose father has to have major surgery in Samoa and doesn’t have the necessary funds. Geoff is going to start a fund to receive financial donations and asked if our club was interested in being the charitable entity for funds to be directed to. Members agreed it was a good cause and that we should assist, subject to the correct entity being used.
For all that and more, be sure to check out this week’s edition of the Coffs City Chatroom.
