President Terry was back in a relaxed mode this week and so was the attendance to today’s meeting, 12 members in for lunch in the Rainbow Room. Perhaps the others could not find us and went home.
Bernard Spry proposed a toast to the Rotary club of Linz-Leonding, the host Rotary club of our exchange student Nick. The club was founded in 1996 and now has some 50 members. The club meets on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Monday each month at 12.30 pm and each 2nd Monday in the evenings when partners are invited. The official language is German.
Nick told us a little of his home in Austria. His presentation also was a practice run for his address to be part of the Inbound Youth Exchange Program (“YEP”) Night.
Nick informed us that Austria has a population of 8.3 million people and they enjoy an annual increase of around 6%. Immigration accounts for around 50,000 people per year. The area of Austria is 83,798 square meters. The highest mountain in Austria is some 3,798 meters, about 2,000 meters higher than Australia’s Mt Kosciuszko.
Nick’s home city is Linz. He describe Linz as an industrial city, predominately focused on steel production. The population of Linz is around 200,000 and is situated on the river Donau.
Nick has a 20 year old brother who is currently at university. His father is a soccer player agent.
